Pandemic Effects on Education in California

While the pandemic may be a few years in the past, it is still hurting and affecting children who were in school during that time. According to a recent study by 95percentgroup.com, reading scores have dropped significantly from 2019 to 2022 for children aged 4 to 11. The survey polled over 800 parents, and it was revealed that one in three think the pandemic is still affecting their child's education and has put them behind where they should be. It isn't hurting their children only in the classroom but has played a factor in hurting them socially as well. Some solutions parents think could help their kids get caught up would be after-school tutoring, year-round school, or longer school days. 

Kids Suffering in School From Pandemic

Without hands-on teaching, students struggled and fell behind during the year away from class, and are still trying to get caught up. Some students have been able to adjust back to normal better than others, but younger students seem to be paying the price. The subjects that these kids are struggling the most in are math at number one, reading at number two, and English at number three. While the pandemic is not the only reason for reading scores being down and students struggling, it is a factor that is tough to account for. Many kids are suffering educationally, and while the pandemic is a part of it, there are other factors as well. The hope is that these kids can get caught up and eventually be able to be where they should be education-wise. Make sure to invest in your kid's education and put in the extra time and effort with them, and perhaps they will get caught up and even move past other classmates.
