Twin Falls is a place that isn't for everyone. It has its perks and can be a nice home, but the style of living doesn't fit what everyone is looking for. Some grow up here and never leave, and there are those who move here, don't like it, and move out to find something that fits them better. For those unaware, I will be moving out of Twin Falls after nearly four and a half years, and as I reflect on my time here in my final days of calling the area home, there are things that I will not miss and that I did not like about the area. If you want to know what I liked, you can find those by clicking here. Here are some things that make living in Twin Falls and the Magic Valley not so great, and why you shouldn't live here.

The People of the Magic Valley

The people of the Magic Valley are both a pro and a con. Some incredible people call the area home that anyone would be lucky to know them, but some make living in Twin Falls hell. Some are rude, nosy, too opinionated, and downright mean. We have all likely interacted with some of these individuals in our time in Twin Falls, and they can make living here suck. Every community has people like this, but Twin Falls seems to have more than it should at times.

Two Lane Roads in the Magic Valley

While open roads can be great, two-lane roads can also be a nightmare. Tractors, animals, construction, a slow driver, or someone on your bumper can quickly make you hate driving on two-lane roads. The worst is when you are in a rush, but can't get around because of oncoming traffic. Your patience will get tested at some point in the Magic Valley.

The Weather in Twin Falls

The weather in Idaho is unpredictable and can make it tough knowing what to wear day to day or what plans to make on the weekend. You can start with a nice sunny warm morning, end up in a wind storm, followed by rain that comes from different directions, and then end up with a beautiful night. It is confusing, and there is no rhyme or reason to how it functions. As a positive, it has been better the last year or two, but you never want to get too comfortable and assume things are becoming more normal.

Where to Eat in Twin Falls

Twin Falls is home to some incredible local places to eat. They have a variety of options, and the places to eat are not the problem. It is more about the places they don't have. Depending on where you move from, some of your favorite chains might be missing, and there are certain types of foods that you may crave that you can't find in a place you like or that meet your expectations. It sometimes takes a special trip to get something you desire, like a weekend down to Salt Lake City or a trip to Boise.

What to Do in the Magic Valley?

Yes, residents get tired of hearing 'There is nothing to do in Twin Falls,' which isn't true, but also is. There are plenty of fun things to do in the Magic Valley, but the issue is that after so long, you have done it all and start to want more. This is where those weekend or day trips to Salt Lake City or Boise come into play, but driving that many hours for fun takes a toll. There is fun to be had in the Magic Valley, but you can always use more.

The School Systems in the Magic Valley

It is no secret that Idaho does not have the best school systems in the country, and that includes the Magic Valley, where some of the schools are not viewed as highly as others in the state. Children are still getting an education, which is what is important, but lack of funding, resources, and, compared to other states, kids may not be getting what a parent desires.

When Do Things Close in Twin Falls?

One of the biggest issues in the Magic Valley is the lack of nightlife. This is not important to everyone, but when businesses are closing early, there are limited options on where to eat later at night, and so many places are closed on Sundays, when residents are finally off from work, it can make things tough for those who have a busy schedule during the week. Many find ways to make it work and adjust, but this is something that takes time to get used to, especially if coming from a major city.

No place is perfect, and Twin Falls is no exception. If the above don't bother you, then perhaps Twin Falls is better suited for you than it was for me, in which case you should click the link in the first paragraph. There are things I will miss about my time in the Magic Valley, but some that I will not miss at all.
