Beware of Crime on the Rise in the Gem State This Season
The music continues to play, the lights are shining, the decorations are up, and many are stressing about the final days of Christmas this year. There is still plenty to do this holiday season for many families, including finishing shopping, wrapping, and getting everything for the big day. Many people stress this time of year awaiting packages to arrive in the mail, hoping their loved ones will get the gift they ordered, instead of receiving it after Christmas. It is always a relief when these gifts finally arrive, but it isn't always a happy ending for these presents. Crime is on the rise in Idaho, and some of these crimes are going to ruin holidays for many across the state.
Porch Pirating in Idaho
It is supposed to be the season of giving, but for some in Idaho, it is the season for taking. Porch pirating is at its worst this time of year, and it isn't only Christmas presents that thieves are targeting this year. Over the weekend, there was a man who posted on Facebook that when unloading his car at home after a trip to the grocery store, someone drove up, stole some of his groceries, and drove off. In another story, a local received a package at their door, and within three minutes, it was stolen off of their porch. Theft is common during the holidays, but it appears to be happening more and more lately, and the thieves are becoming more bold and not hiding their actions.
Holiday Crime in Idaho
The holiday season can bring out the best in people, but it can also bring out the worst and the selfish side as well. Christmas is intended to be about giving and loving one another, but so many people are focused on the material part of the holiday and the gifts. More packages are being delivered this time of year than any other, and some view this as an opportunity to steal and make money and get gifts. With technology where it is, most residents in Idaho have security cameras and doorbell cameras, meaning that most of these people will be caught, yet thieves still are attempting to poach your packages and gifts once they have been delivered. It is best to invest in a safe box of sorts or to ask your packages to be put in a safe place to avoid having them stolen this season.
Make sure to have things arranged for your packages and that your cameras are set up this holiday season. If possible, try to have someone home and make sure to get your packages immediately, as stated above, porch pirates are acting quickly this time of year. Packages get lost every holiday season, but having one stolen from your front porch is different and avoidable. Be safe and be smart this holiday season.
