The holidays are in the past, the year is settling in, and now is the longest gap of the year without a holiday weekend. The long drought can often cause a stir in people to want to get out of the house and go somewhere. Weather can play a factor in being able to take a day or weekend trip, but when the roads are good it is nice to get out of town for two or three days and see different scenery than the same thing every day. There are some neat places near Twin Falls worth taking a few days to visit.

Around three hours to the south is the biggest city within a few hours of Twin Falls, in Salt Lake City, Utah. You could easily leave on a Friday night or afternoon, enjoy the weekend and be back in time for work on Monday. There are so many options in terms of what to do. You can drive to shop at stores that Twin may not have, take in a sporting event, enjoy the Great Salt Lake, or possibly hit the slopes. Depending on the time of year you go there are endless possibilities. Personally, Ikea is a must-hit if looking to do some projects around the house, as well as seeing Temple Square. In the summer make sure to hit up Cowabunga Bay Water Park. One Salt Lake City must is Utah Olympic Park.

The closest actual city to Twin Falls is Boise. It is only a two-hour drive or less straight up Interstate 84. While it may not be a huge city, there is plenty to do. They have good food, tones of shopping, art museums, the zoo and more. If looking to get out of Twin for a few days but not spend too much time in the car, Boise is the ideal place to go. Zoo Boise located in Julia Davis Park is a great place to spend an afternoon with the family, or if you want to focus more on water animals you can go to the Aquarium of Boise. While there, take advantage of it and stop by Trader Joe's for some groceries you can't get here or go to Cabela's.

Just like Sun Valley, Rupert is close enough that you wouldn't have to stay the night, but could take a trip for the day just to get away for a few hours. There is enough to do throughout the year that it doesn't matter what time of year you go. Christmas is the best, as Rupert had events almost every night through December, but they also have a week-long celebration for the Fourth of July. You can catch a show at the historic Wilson Theatre or spend time at Lake Walcott State Park
