Why Idaho is So Clean and Green Compared to Other States
People are more worried about the environment than ever before, and despite being more aware and conscious of the pollution and damage being done, enough is not being done to stop it from spreading. When it comes to being green and keeping the environment clean certain places do it better than most. Typically, fewer people means less pollution, but what cities are known for being the most green, which cities are ruining our planet, and how do the cities in Idaho compare?
The Most Green and Least Green Cities in the United States
When it comes to being a city that is described as green, there are a few different things that need to be considered, such as environment, transportation, energy sources, and lifestyle and policy. WalletHub used these categories recently to release a list of the greenest cities in the United States. The list ranks San Diego as the greenest city in the country, with Portland, Oregon as second, and Honolulu as third, to round out the top three. Out of a possible 100 cities, it was determined that Gilbert, Arizona is the least green, with Glendale, Arizona, and Mesa, Arizona rounding out the bottom three.
Is Idaho a Green State or Polluted?
According to the list, Boise is one of the more green cities in the entire country. They come in at 34, ranking 79 in the environment, 22 in transportation, 23 in energy sources, and 51 in lifestyle and policy. With Idaho not having nearly as many cities as other states and not as big of a population, it is surprising that the environment did not rank better. All the factories may have played a factor though. The lower population through the state though surely helped when it came to transportation as fewer cars adds fewer fumes in the air.
As pollution continues to raid the air across the globe, it is on us all to do our part to help the planet. Idaho is usually known for its clean and fresh air, and according to the list we are doing a pretty good job, but there is always room for improvement. Fortunately for those of us in the Magic Valley, we are not near a big city, so we are much more green than most on this list. Do what you can and do your part to help keep our planet green.
