
Idaho Bassist Considered One Of Best Ever Despite Brain Disorder
A Grammy Award-winning musician who will be turning 62 in a few weeks has defied immense odds, overcome what many neurologists consider a mental impairment, and continues to be regarded as one of the greatest bass players in American music history.
This iconic, beloved southern Idaho-born musician was once a member of a highly influential ensemble that formed in Tennessee in the late eighties.
After nearly four decades of performing throughout the world, Victor Wooten admits his skills are diminishing due to a condition that compromises the very two hands that have allowed him to cement himself as a master of his instrument.

Idaho-born Bassist Victor Wooten Is Regarded As One Of The Best Ever Despite Battling A Brain Impairment

Wooten achieved fame as one of the contributing members of the jazz and electric blues group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. He has suffered from focal dystonia, a cognitive impairment that criples the nerves in many parts of the body, including the hands and face, dating back to 2016, according to Meta.

Aside from Grammy awards, Wooten was also named one of the top bass players of all time by both Rolling Stone Magazine and Bass Player Magazine, according to the Berklee College of Music.
Wooten's hometown of Mountain Home is located 44 miles southeast of Boise and is home to the Mountain Home Air Force Base.
