Twin Falls Tattoo Artist Explains Why The Best Are Always Learning
If you want to be the best at anything, you have to be committed to always be learning. Twin Falls tattoo artist Joshua Martinez explains that this is also true when it comes to the art of tattooing.
A professional is someone who's willing to learn and keep on learning and move forward and grow...doing better and better, always criticizing their work...
Joshua - "I started on myself and my friends when I was young. I learned how to make a machine and pigments on my own and started doing that in the neighborhood and became the go-to guy."
I asked Joshua if he remembered how long he had been an artist and when he got good at it.
Joshua - "I've been doing it right since yesterday or the last tattoo, you know. I don't want to say that I've been tattooing since this long cause I'd like to say that every day I'm learning more at becoming better at what I do. I started about 95, professionally about 2009. And, from there, still learning...always learning, always want to be better."
In the tattoo industry, you'll hear artists referred to as "scratchers" and "professionals" meaning a scratcher is an artist that does tattoos in their home while a professional is in a shop. Joshua adds a qualifier to that separation.
Joshua - "A professional is someone who's willing to learn and keep on learning and move forward and grow...doing better and better, always criticizing their work....A scratcher to me is someone who just isn't willing to learn."
Joshua is the kind of guy who is willing to help you out if you want a quick tattoo, but always prefers to draw something up ahead of time so he can add his personality to your ideas. You can find out more about Joshua on the WarmArt website and their Facebook page, too.
