Choosing where to go to college is a major decision in life. Not only for the person attending but for the parents as well. For those going to college, where you choose to attend can decide what job you get going forward, where you live as an adult, who you marry, and how your adult life will play out. For parents, it is your child getting a meaningful education, setting up their career, how close or far they are from home, and who could join your family in the future. When many people think of Idaho they think of Boise State. It would be safe to assume that most think it is the best college in the Gem State, but, according to a recent study, it is not only not the best college, but not among the top list even. What are the best colleges in Idaho and where should you or your children contemplate going if attending college in Idaho?

While assuming Boise State is the best college in Idaho is acceptable, there are other colleges, and a few of them appear to be better options according to a recent study. WalletHub recently did a study ranking the best colleges in Idaho, and Boise State is not in the top three. They ranked the colleges using many categories, such as admission rate, net cost, student-faculty ratio, on-campus crime, gender and racial diversity, graduation rate, and post-attendance median salary. Taking all of these into account, it was determined that The College of Idaho is the best in the Gem State, with the University of Idaho being the second-best college and Northwest Nazarene University being the third-best school.

The College of Idaho ranked on top of many of the categories listed in the paragraph above. It came in as number one in admission rate, student-faculty ratio, gender and racial diversity, and graduation rate. It is a more affordable school than others on the list and sees its students succeed in the classroom with a high rate of graduation. If safety is more of a priority, the safest school according to the list is the University of Idaho ranking number one in crime rate, as well as ranking number one in Idaho in net cost and post-attendance median salary. This makes the school safe as well as making sure its former students are getting paid once they get into the workforce. When it comes to deciding where to go to school the decision is stressful and tough. Make sure to read the pros and cons of each school above and decide what is more important to you or your child. If safety and being paid a decent amount after college means the most, then the University of Idaho might be what you need, but if having a more affordable school with a high graduation rate means more, the College of Idaho is it. If neither is appealing, then perhaps look out of state, or maybe you go to Boise State and see what they have to offer.
