Snowmobile Hillclimb Race Comes to Soldier Mountain This Weekend
This Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, the country’s top 100 professional snowmobile teams will gather to kick off the 2025 Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association (RMSHA) racing season.
This is Soldier Mountain’s first-ever hillclimb race, and according to General Manager David Alden, it’s shaping up to be a huge weekend. With upwards of 800 riders and crew in attendance—not to mention everyone coming out to watch—you can expect an unforgettable experience.
Watch the Action Up Close
The snowmobilers will race straight up the Canyon run, right under Chair 1. If you’re skiing or snowboarding, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of the race from the lift. Or, you can hang out at the lodge, enjoy the patio, or walk just five minutes to the top of the Inspiration run for an even closer look.
This isn’t your everyday event—Soldier Mountain used leftover snow from a recent U.S. Ski & Snowboard training camp to create jumps for the racers. Whether you’re a snowmobile fan or just curious, it’s a perfect way to enjoy something new and exciting in your backyard.
“It’s a great time for both skiing and non-skiing families to watch something really exciting and unusual,” Alden said. “Bring your lawn chairs and your friends and enjoy this rare opportunity to see a race of this caliber up close.”
Event Details and How to Join
The hillclimb races run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, and Soldier Mountain’s chairlifts will operate for skiing and snowboarding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you’re a local snowmobile rider, you can even join the competition! Sign up onsite at Soldier Mountain on Saturday for just $100.
