I've never had the opportunity to see a live elk up close. Now, thanks to Miller Elk Farm in Buhl, I've seen, petted, and fed live elk.

It's actually shocking how many times I've driven past the Miller Elk Farm without really noticing what kind of animals they were raising. Last Friday, after I had scheduled my tour with Erin Miller, the co-owner of the Elk Farm, I drove past the farm on my way home again but this time I actually looked and was amazed to see several enormous Bulls right next to the road! How did I miss this?

My son Jack, wife Natalie, and I were met by Erin who was fantastic during our tour. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely cooperative. I don't think there was a question we asked that she couldn't answer. We were allowed to feed one of the elk, a female named "Syringa," see three month old baby elk, walk through the pen with the females, get up close to the Bulls, and see a baby elk that was no more than three to four days old. Syringa was so well mannered that we were allowed to pet her, and my two year old son Jack was able to hand feed her.

The tour lasted about an hour and was certainly a trip I would take again. You can schedule your own free tour of Miller Elk Farm in Buhl by visiting their website, friending them on Facebook, or by calling (208) 539-9562.

Thanks to Erin of Miller Elk Farm for being so gracious and allowing my family to see her elk!
