Staying in a hotel is a joy and a rare occurrence for many. It is fun from time to time to get out of town, stay somewhere else, and not have the responsibilities that you do back home. There is someone to help clean the room, the hot water never runs out, and the bed is likely softer than the one you have at home. It is fun to be able to switch things up, but while hotels can be a joy to stay in, they can also have negatives as well. Most people have had at least one bad hotel experience in life and know that it can ruin their stay. There are certain things hotels in Idaho do not want you to know, but you likely should have this information. So what are they keeping from their guests?

Someone Has Likely Died in Your Room

With how many people stay in hotels daily across the state, the odds are that someone has died in most rooms at one time or another. The hotel you are staying at is highly unlikely to reveal this information to you, which makes each room a little unsettling that you stay in. The next time you stay in a room, it might creep you out, but be aware the odds are good someone died where you are sleeping.

Hotel Safes Are Not Safe

A safe is supposed to be, well, safe. There are certain things you travel with that you don't want to carry on you, such as your passport, maybe your computer, or some other important item. Putting it in the safe seems logical, but in reality, it isn't that safe. Certain members of the staff have keys to your safe, and they can get into it when you are out, and at times will. Some things are better off hidden and locked away elsewhere.

Hotel Sheets Not As Clean As You Think

Most would assume that when they check into a hotel the room has been cleaned properly. This would mean that fresh sheets are on the bed, but that might not be the case. Some hotels are known to only change the sheets once or twice a week, and you might be sleeping on sheets that were occupied by someone else the night before. If this weirds you out, you may want to travel with your own as a backup.

They Want You to Take the Toiletries

Odds are that at some point you have seen a movie or television show where someone stayed in a hotel and took all the toiletries. This may seem like a comedic gag, but it isn't far from the truth. Once something has been opened or used, the hotel can't leave it for the next guest, so they are forced to throw it away. Instead of having something go in the trash, why not take it home and get some use out of it?

The Dirtiest Object in the Room Isn't What You Think

As stated above, the sheets are not always as clean as you may think, but they are far from the dirtiest thing in the room. That, surprisingly, would be the remote controller for the television. Most cleaning people would wipe down many items or at least flip the sheets, but the controller is not something typically wiped down. Most guests use the TV, and without being wiped down, who knows how many germs and hands have touched that remote before you. Perhaps some gloves on your next stay would be a good idea.

The Staff Has Stocked Your Social Media

This may sound creepy, but there is a reason for it. Staff will often look up guests to see if they have left reviews of the hotel, or to see if they are someone that commonly stays at their chain. If they see a positive review, there is a chance they may give you some perks, but a bad review could make your stay less desirable.

The Staff is Using Your Bathroom and Bed

When you stay in a hotel, the thought is that only you and the people sharing your room are sleeping in the bed and using the bathroom. Cleaning crews will at times use the bathroom of the room they are cleaning. Why take time to go to the employee restroom, when they are already in one? Cleaning crews have time allowed to clean each room, and if the room is cleaned up promptly, they may lay on the bed and take a quick power nap to help them through the rest of their shift.

Don't Use the Drinking Glass

Having drinking glasses in your room can seem like a nice luxury, especially when you have something to pour into them or need a sip of water. It is not a good idea to use the glass though, as it was likely cleaned with a rag that was also used to wipe down other parts of the room. Not knowing what germs are left on the glass, it is best to play it safe and buy a cup elsewhere or bring your own.

Who Gets the Worst Rooms

Certain rooms offer better views in each hotel, and others have views of the back of a building, the dumpsters, or the parking lot. How do hotels choose who gets the worst rooms? If you are someone who books through a site looking for the best deals, odds are you will end up in one of the worst rooms. Hotels view these guests as ones that are only staying for the deal, and would rather give the better rooms to more frequent guests.

Being Polite Has a Benefit

Working at a hotel can't be easy, as they deal with many different types of personalities, and many rude guests daily. That is why if you are polite to the staff, there is a chance it may benefit you. Going above and beyond to be polite, especially if you tip, could lead to some upgrades and perhaps a good deal the next time you stay at that hotel.
