The past few years have not been kind to many businesses, retail stores, and restaurants. The pandemic may have happened a few years ago but the effects are still being felt years later. It has led to some once popular places closing hundreds or thousands of stores across the country, and in some severe cases have completely gone out of business. This past year has seen an uptick in places closing locations across the country and going out of business, making 2024 one of the worst years in recent memory for retail chains, restaurant chains, and other companies. Another retail store will join the long-growing list of stores going out of business, and the entire Golden State will be affected by these closures.

It is always sad to see stores close. It puts people out of a job, it hurts a community, and customers are saddened to see one of their favorite stores close. The list continues to grow daily, and this time Party City will be next. The popular party store has announced that they will be going out of business, going as far as to tell corporate employees that they have already worked their last days. All stores nationwide will be closing, including all the locations across California. This will lessen the options available to those in California regarding finding balloons, party supplies, and anything needed to throw a good party in the state.

Party City is a great place to go when throwing a birthday party, a baby shower, or any kind of large gathering. They sadly have been headed towards going out of business longer than most realize though. They filed for bankruptcy early in 2023, which allowed them to stay in business, but since that time the company has failed to get out of debt, leading to the company to go out of business. The saddest part of the closing is that the large party supply company employed nearly 6,400 full-time employees and over 10,000 part-time employees nationwide, that will now be without a job. The cost of running a business going up, as well as many companies going into debt over the last few years, is continuing to cause customers to say goodbye to stores they enjoy. Party City is the newest member of this group, but they won't be the last. Thank you Party City for all the years, and good luck to all of their employees.
