Typically the summer is not when diseases are getting spread as much across Idaho. Kids are out of school, the wind is a little less than at other times throughout the year, and the weather is much better overall. Despite this all being true, there are still some diseases getting spread across the Gem State. With summer being the peak of tourist season, this time of year brings in many tourists, as well as Idahoans, who are traveling themselves. This puts residents in contact with others from around the country and the world and exposes them to different diseases. One nasty disease is back and is spreading across the Gem State, especially in the Magic Valley.

While it isn't as deadly as it used to be, COVID is still a disease that many would like to avoid. It hits everyone differently, and for some, it can put them in bed for days or a week, and for others, it leads to a slight cough a day of sleep, and nothing else. It is still highly contagious and it is best to stay home if you test positive, but with concerns less than they once were, most are out and about with it, which is helping it spread rapidly through the Magic Valley and across the state of Idaho. Doctors are seeing many families with the disease, and it is highly likely that someone you know will end up with it sooner than later.

COVID Protocols in Idaho

Over the last few years protocols have changed and are less strict, but it is best to stay home when showing symptoms of COVID. There are still those at work and in your family that will have a hard time fighting the disease. If you are unsure of what protocol is for your company, it is best to ask your supervisor, but the rule of thumb is if you have a fever, are testing positive, or are showing symptoms, stay home. Typically three days out is enough, but each person is different. Some may need a week, others may require two days. Use your best judgment, and think of your coworkers and who you will be in contact with before leaving the home.

If you need to go out and are fearful of catching COVID or spreading it, then dawn that pretty mask you haven't used in a while. It won't need to be worn forever, but perhaps for a day or two. Use good judgment, and consider others, but don't let the fear of getting COVID ruin your summer. It may be a slight downer, but with a little rest and taking care of yourself, it shouldn't be that bad for most people.
