Flu season is presently steamrolling its way across the United States resulting in early sick days being used, students absent from class following the holiday break, and packed waiting rooms at clinics and hospitals.

Physicians are urging people to do what they can to prevent spreading disease. Covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands regularly, and wearing masks are all habits that can help stave off viruses.

There are a couple of nasty virus strains causing illness in Americans from coast to coast. Some of the common ones include Influenza A, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and Influenza B. Another illness that is sweeping the nation right now has earned the nickname, 'Super Flu.'

I attended a New Year's Eve party where I later found out that at least one person wasn't feeling well. Less than 48 hours later, I got slammed.

My symptoms included light-headedness, severe sinus headaches, chronic coughing that lasted more than four days, sinus irritation, and body aching. Influenza A was identified as my likely illness by a family friend who is a nurse. Letting the virus 'run its course' was the advise offered to me.

The virus identified as the 'Super Flu' includes many of these symptoms as well, but is also reported to inflict severe stomach discomfort, loose stools, and vomiting bile in many cases. Idaho is presently one of about 10 states with reported 'high' numbers of this strain, according to The Hill.
