Caves just naturally inspire fear in many people. They are dark, mysterious, and cold, and one in particular about 200 miles northeast of Twin Falls has a shockingly terrifying history and was the site of a gruesome discovery in the late-seventies.

Located north of Idaho Falls is the small community of Dubois in Clark County. When I say small, I mean the town has a population of less than 600 people. Dubois was put on the map in 1979 after some hikers found the remains of an unidentified man, according to wired.com. The discovery remained a mystery for more than four decades before anyone found out who the deceased person was.

The legend of Buffalo Cave has become like something out of a Scooby Doo episode since a headless torso and limbs were discovered between 1979 and 1992 by separate people exploring the area. Forty years would pass before authorities identified the body parts as belonging to an ex-murderer and outlaw by the name of Joseph Loveless. Loveless is said to have escaped from jail and may have likely been killed by someone tracking him.

The cave doesn't appear to be all that large in size, but the lore surrounding it packs a mighty punch. Some in the Internet sleuth circles have said the cave's dark history likely has produced some paranormal energy. A murder as gruesome as a beheading is thought to be the kind of shocking death that warrants a haunting, according to those in the ghost research field. There are numerous videos and sites online that detail how to find the cave for those brave enough to seek it out.
