School Bus Accident With Children on Board Reported. Drivers Injured.

On Thursday morning, August 27th just before 8 AM, a school bus transporting kids to a Twin Falls middle school was involved in an accident that injured the bus driver and the driver of another vehicle.

One child on the bus was also checked by medical personnel at the scene of the accident.

According to reports, the accident happened at the intersection of Jackson Street and Shoup Ave. in Twin Falls between a white Dodge Journey and a school bus. Police believe the van was driving south on Jackson Street and the bus was headed east on Shoup when both vehicles approached the uncontrolled intersection.

Neither vehicle yielded at the intersection and collided.

Both drivers had minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. There were 11 students on the school bus and one was checked by medics on scene.

In a social media post by the Twin Falls Police Department, drivers are reminded of the right-of-way rules at uncontrolled intersections - intersections with no yield or stop signs. The rule requires a driver to yield if another vehicle is approaching the intersection at the same time if the approaching vehicle is to the right of the driver.

Using the recent accident as an example, generally, the vehicle headed south (the van) would be required to yield to the vehicle coming from the east (the bus) because the bus would be to the right of the driver of the van.
