LOOK: Dangerous Historic Twin Falls Building Finally Demolished
Many buildings in Downtown Twin Falls are old and in need of updates and others are beyond repair. Recently one of those buildings began crumbling and chunks of brick began falling to the ground. This caused a dangerous situation downtown and it was quickly blocked off by city workers.
When the damage happened back on March 10th, it was during an especially windy day and some thought the wind had blown the sections of the building down. Rubble covered the sidewalk in front of the building for weeks after the incident as decisions were made about how to proceed with the building. The Twin Falls building official I met that morning believed that the building would have to be demolished to make the area safe. He was right.
See the building now in the gallery below and what it looked like as it started crumbling.
Twin Falls Building on Main Street Finally Demolished
Over the weekend crews began the process of tearing down the walls and sorting through the debris. This morning what remained of the leveled building were piles of brick, metal, and wood that had been sorted for disposal.
Demolition of the building began on Friday in Twin Falls. To safely knock the building down, crews pushed the walls inward to contain the mess. Due to the age of the building, some asbestos was safely and properly removed.
