Elderly Driver Killed in Rollover Accident Into Northern Idaho Lake

An accident in northern Idaho on Thursday morning claimed the life of an Idaho driver.

The rollover accident happened along the northern shore of Lake Pend Oreille.

Idaho Driver Dead Following Rollover Accident Into Idaho Waterway

In the report from the Idaho State Police, we learn that the accident happened around 5:18 AM on July 30th on State Highway 200 near mile marker 42. That stretch of highway runs along the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille in Bonner County.

• An 82-year-old male from Sandpoint, Idaho, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving a silver 2025 Jeep Compass eastbound on SH 200 when the vehicle gradually left the roadway and entered the eastbound ditch.
  The vehicle then traveled down a steep embankment into the water, where it overturned.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and passed away at the scene of the accident.

Did The Jeep Roll Into Lake Pend Oreille or Into a River

The report doesn’t specifically say that the vehicle ended up in Lake Pend Oreille, but based on the location and the Idaho 511 map at mile marker 42, the vehicle either ended up in the lake or possibly in Trestle Creek. But the report also says the vehicle went down a steep embankment on the eastbound side, which seems to indicate that the car went into the lake.

The accident is being investigated by the Idaho State Police.
