Two Sides: Confusion in Twin Falls Over Gun Registry
A debate over gun laws in Idaho has gained national attention in recent weeks. Police released a statement about an alleged gun registry hoping to clear up any confusion while local firearm dealers claimed many of the statements in the press release were false.
The debate includes questions about what information is legally required to be provided when guns are bought and sold, who should have access to that information, and how they get it.
Truth vs Fiction: Confusion Abounds in Twin Falls Over Gun Registry
The debate came to a head last Thursday, August 22nd when the Twin Falls Police Chief, Craig S. Kingsbury released his statement to clear up ‘false and deceptive social media posts regarding our intent to create a gun registry.’
The statement goes into depth regarding the discussions and meetings with the community that were held regarding the issue. The entire statement can be read on the City of Twin Falls website and social media.
As of now, according to the statement, no change has been officially proposed to the City Code. See below for links to the Twin Falls City Code and Leads Online.
After the press release from the TFPD, Daniel Corsini the local gun shop owner at Quick Response Firearms took to social media to make his own statement regarding the issue. QRF is veteran-owned and operated and made it clear in a post that they support the police and that the issue here comes from ‘their high leadership’. In the comment, posted under the Police Press Release and an 18-minute video on their Facebook page, QRF hits on all the key points they claim are either false, misrepresented, or ignored.
