July 4 is almost here! Most of us will be hosting or attending some sort of gathering to celebrate Independence Day this weekend. What you bring to the party in the way of food could make you the punchline of jokes to come for many years.

My contribution to holiday potlucks is my eight-layer dip. Yeah, you read that right, EIGHT layers. I decided a long time ago that I was going to raise the bar for those who bring traditional multi-layered chip dips to these gatherings. I can't give out my recipe, so I apologize to those who are curious about what that final, all-important layer is.

I will say it is green, and some people would need to take an acid reducer before consuming this final layer of my creation.

'This dish isn’t doing it for anybody,' says the writer of the column. The author trashes the dish due to its high fat content and processed ingredients (refined flour pasta), and the fact that mayonnaise shouldn't sit too long outdoors because it goes bad faster than most other foods.
