BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) – An Idaho man is recovering from injuries sustained in a bear attack while hunting on Sunday near Clear Creek.

The 43-year-old Boise man, Marvin Jennings, was hunting with an uncle over a bear bait site when the incident occurred.

"Towards dusk," reads information from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game,

the two men observed a large black bear approaching their bait site. The uncle shot and wounded the animal, which ran some distance away. After a short period of time, Jennings approached.

The bear charged, knocking Jennings to the ground and both hunter and bear tumbled down a hill. The bear bit Jennings multiple times on the left arm and leg before Jennings dispatched the animal with a handgun.

Jennings was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.

Fish and Game staff interviewed the two men at the hospital and examined the bear at the site. Officers found that tooth wear revealed that the animal, though otherwise healthy, “was very old.”
