WATCH: Magic Valley Man Shares Cop Involved Dog Shooting Video

A southern Idaho man has shared a video of an officer-involved shooting of a dog that happened earlier this week in Twin Falls. The footage has resulted in many Magic Valley residents using social media to voice both concern and support over the matter.

A Magic Valley resident took to social media this week to share the story about his Rottweiler 'Lowkey,' who is recovering from wounds sustained after a video shows a local police officer discharging his weapon at the animal after it ran at him.

The video posted by the homeowner shows two officers approaching a residence in the 300 block of Diamond Avenue at approximately 1:30 P.M. Wednesday (August 12) moments before the large animal is seen charging toward one of the officers from around a corner.

Twin Falls Police Respond To Shooting Involving Rottweiler Wednesday Afternoon

The Twin Falls Police Department acknowledged the incident did occur later that afternoon, as well as issued an update on the animal's health. The dog was treated and released from an area animal clinic, according to the Meta post.

'Consistent with established practice for officer-involved incidents, the matter has been referred to the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office for an independent investigation,' the Twin Falls Police Department press release read.

The dog owner's post sparked a heated online discussion over police response to the matter, with some area residents defending the officer's actions and others condemning it.

This matter is actively being investigated.
