The Fourth of July holiday is quickly approaching and that means that many southern Idaho fireworks fans will be heading to area stands soon to prepare for parties and family gatherings.

This year also happens to be the 250th anniversary of America's independence, so firework displays could be more risky than in recent years as revelers might be planning to celebrate with a bigger bang than usual. Those who light off illegal fireworks will face fines, and possibly arrest, by area police.

Idaho, like many other states, is very cautious when it comes to fireworks. Every year, numerous fires are started from illegal fireworks across the United States, and this fact puts emergency servicemen and women's lives in danger, as well as wildlife.

Acceptable fireworks include sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs, and fountains, according to a city of Twin Falls safety website.
