Former Nevada & Pro Player Kaepernick Working Toward NFL Return

Perhaps the most controversial sports figure since O.J. Simpson appears to be on the path toward making a return to the National Football League.

Colin Kaepernick has been working out this week with a number of NFL teams. The former University of Nevada standout, and quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers for five seasons, has also been seen a lot lately on social media working out with past and present NFL athletes. The most recent team to attend a private workout of his is reported to be the Atlanta Falcons, according to information provided by MSN Sports.

Kaepernick garnered both national support, and animosity, for his September, 2016, kneeling during the National Anthem prior to the start of a game. The 32-year-old, 6-foot, 4-inch athlete, has stated publicly his decision to do so was a stance against racial injustice. A number of high profile deaths of African Americans at the hands of law enforcement was still fresh in the minds of many Americans at the time he opted to kneel.

In 2018, Nike made him the face of the company with a very lucrative deal. He had already been signed as a company spokesperson for seven year prior. Many fans and sports professionals still argue that he is still good enough to compete on a high level in the NFL.

Kaepernick's career NFL stats include 72 touchdowns, 12, 271 yards passing and a trip to Superbowl XLVII, in which San Francisco was beaten by the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 34-31.
