Growing up, kids have dreams of what they will be when they become adults. Some want to be astronauts, some want to be firefighters, and some want to do simple things like have the same job as their mom or dad. Many children, dream of being a professional athlete, but dreaming of being one and becoming one are two different things. Many things have to align to make this dream come true, such as athletic ability, genetics, hard work, and proper training. For some the dream of being a pro athlete does come true and for one young Southern Idaho man, it came true in the first round of the NFL draft.

Each year many NFL fans watch the NFL draft watching their teams build for the future to eventually contend for a Super Bowl. College kid after college kid has their name announced and live the dream of becoming a professional football player. Living in Southern Idaho, it seems most of these players come from places like Florida, Texas, and California. It is rare to see someone that is from the Gem State, but this year is different as one young man from the Magic Valley not only will see his dream realized of playing in the NFL, but he was drafted in the first round, and in the top ten at that. Congratulations to Colston Loveland from Gooding, Idaho, who will now be a Chicago Bear.

Colston Loveland was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the tenth overall pick in this year's NFL draft. Loveland plays tight end and is 6 foot 5 inches. He attended Gooding High School and was the 2021-2022 Gatorade Player of the Year in Idaho. During his senior year, he had 62 catches, 968 receiving yards, 14 receiving touchdowns, and 352 rushing yards on 33 carries. He also played linebacker where he recorded 57 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two interceptions, and led his team to a 9-1 record and a spot in the 3A semifinals of the playoffs. He would go on to attend Michigan where he won a national championship and over his three-year college career totaled 117 receptions, 1,466 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns. He will now take his talent to Chicago where he will hope to become their starting tight end and begin what will hopefully be a long and successful career.

It isn't everyday that someone in the Magic Valley becomes a pro athlete, but when it does happen it is exciting to see what kids in the area can achieve. Good luck to Loveland and hopefully he will make the area proud, and for those with kids aspiring to be a pro athlete, let them know that kids in the Magic Valley can achieve their dream as well and that it is possible to become a pro athlete while living in Southern Idaho.
