Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation by Magic Valley Critical Incident Task Force

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting an aggravated battery with a weapon at a home near Filer. The incident escalated, resulting in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

Incident Details

According to a press release, a deputy discharged their firearm, striking the suspect after arriving at the scene. Despite life-saving efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

Two victims of the aggravated battery were transported to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center. One victim reportedly sustained serious injuries. The extent of the other victim's injuries has not been disclosed.

Investigation Underway

The Magic Valley Critical Incident Task Force has been activated, with the Twin Falls Police Department serving as the lead agency in the investigation. The task force’s role is to ensure an impartial examination of the events leading to the suspect’s death.

Twin Falls Police Chief Craig Kingsbury addressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “Any law enforcement action that results in the death of an individual is tragic. The Twin Falls Police Department is committed to conducting a thorough and unbiased investigation into this tragic event.”
