If you see a teal pumpkin on a front porch, chances are it's not for decoration.

According to Pippergress.com, the teal pumpkin is a new way of notifying little witches, super heroes, ghosts and goblins that a house offers options for children with food allergies. 15 million children across the US are affected by food allergies.

The Teal Pumpkin project was inspired by a Tennessee mother and created by the Food Allergy Research and Education.

Houses that choose to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project should have non-food Halloween items to hand out to children. They also need to place a pumpkin that has been painted teal on their front porch. The idea is quickly growing across the United States, giving all children the option to Trick-or-Treat on Halloween night.

Parents with children that have food allergies are very thankful for the Teal Pumpkin Project. One mother stated that she absolutely loves the idea, it warms her heart.
