Tis The Season For This Popular Scam in the Gem State
The holidays are supposed to be the season of giving. It is the time of year that when you go to the store you are looking to buy for those that mean the most to you, instead of buying for yourself. It is also the time of year that many give to others, especially those in need. Be it the lights, the music, the holiday spirit, or perhaps the Christmas bonus you receive, many in the Magic Valley find the need to give this time of year. There is one scam happening this holiday season looking to take advantage of those who are in the giving mood but don't be fooled by it.
Beggars During the Holidays in Idaho
With so many in the giving mood during the holidays, it shouldn't be a surprise that some will look to take advantage of it. Part of this is to scam people out of money, and another part is to perhaps make a quick dollar to help pay for the holidays. Whatever the reason, panhandlers, also known as beggars, are out and have their hands open asking for handouts this time of year. Sadly, many will give to them, which encourages this type of behavior to continue, but you shouldn't be giving them your hard-earned money. Despite what their signs say, they likely are not homeless and are looking for easy money, instead of earning it through work.
Holiday Scams in Idaho
With the weather being cold, most would assume beggars would not be an issue this time of year, but like many, they are looking for extra funds to help them through the holidays, and taking advantage of the generosity in the Magic Valley and around the Gem State. Typically, most homeless people will not beg, and those that are doing so, are looking to get money without getting a job, or making extra money after work. So long as these individuals are not trespassing, they are not breaking the law, and the best way to discourage their actions is to not give them any money this holiday season.
It is ultimately up to you if you want to be generous and give to these individuals this time of year, or if you would rather give your money to a more needy cause. Nobody can fault them for wanting to earn extra money, as the holidays have become expensive, but there are other ways to go about it, instead of standing on a corner asking for a handout this holiday season.
