KETCHUM, Idaho (KLIX) – If you plan on heading to the mountains today, you might want to rethink your plans.

Avalanche danger in areas of the Sawtooth Mountains will start as “considerable” but may rise to “high” into the night if the forecasted storm comes through, according to the Sawtooth Avalanche Center.

The center’s advisory Thursday morning said conditions could trigger 2- to 4-foot slabs in both sheltered and exposed terrain, and any “significant amount of rain falling on snow at lower and middle elevations will also cause the danger to increase.”

Besides the “Sawtooth Mountains,” the Smoky and Boulder Mountains, Soldier Mountains and areas in the Wood River Valley are listed on the advisory.
