What would you do? What would you do if you got a call from your child's school and were told he was in the nurse's office? They then inform you that your son was beaten up on the playground by an older kid, but no teacher saw it and can give you details.

Bullying has long been an issue in schools. Most of us have been bullied at some point in our life or maybe even bullied someone ourselves. It seems to be worse now than ever, especially with now adding cyberbullying to the equation. It is just another way for kids to be picked on that the older generations didn't have to deal with.

Somehow hearing your kid is getting bullied, is worse than when you got bullied as a kid. As a parent though, what would you do? There is a part of me that wants to bully the kid back for bullying my kid, but that is illegal and doesn't solve anything. There is a part of me that wants to go confront the parents, but that could turn ugly quickly. What if they are offended or in denial, it was their kid? What if their kid does it because their parents bully them?

Then there is the issue of how did no teacher at the school see what happened? I understand there are so many kids and only so many adults. They can't possibly see everything, but nobody heard or saw a thing, yet they know which kid it was. It is such a fine line and tough thing to handle as a parent. Instinct is to be mad, but you have to be reasonable too. It is a parent's job to protect their child, but you can't act emotionally and irrationally either.

My son came home with a bloody lip but didn't cry and didn't hit back. I was proud of the way he dealt with the situation, but anger continues to boil inside. How should one handle the situation? I have to stand up for my son, but I have to be responsible in how I do so. What would you do?

Make sure to identify the difference between bullying and student conflict and make sure that your child feels self confident. Connect with your child's school to address the problem and make sure everyone is aware of the situation.
