Christmas decorations are lighting up houses all over the Magic Valley, inflatables are blowing in the wind, and there are plenty of decorations to admire and enjoy. Plenty of hard work was put in to make homes, businesses, and displays look beautiful and festive for the holiday season, but from time to time things will happen to mess those decorations up. There are a few monsters in the area that can undo all that hard work and wreck Christmas decorations temporarily and permanently.

Over the last few weeks, it hasn't been uncommon to see a few Christmas decorations become destroyed or need some slight repairs. Lights have gone out, inflatables have been torn, and some have disappeared altogether. The wind has played a factor in some of these decorations disappearing and being damaged. As far as bulbs go, the worst part is figuring out which one goes out. It may only be one bad bulb, but it can knock out a whole strand, and finding the bad one can take some time. While the weather is a monster that you can't prepare for, there is one that is doing as much, if not more damage, that you can see coming.

The weather is one thing, but there are actual little monsters destroying plenty of holiday lights and decorations around the Magic Valley. Squirrels have been chewing on wires, popping inflatables, and screwing up lights for years, and it is time to put an end to it. While they might look adorable with their flapping tails, buck teeth, and big eyes, these creatures are destructive and have done far too much damage through the holiday season. My family and I enjoy watching them through our window, but once they get near the Christmas lights or the inflatable decorations, all bets are off. I would never want to harm one of these creatures, especially in front of my sons, but perhaps a relocation would be nice to help protect the lights.

As you drive around and look at Christmas lights this holiday season, if you see a bulb or strand out, know it might be these little monsters that caused it. If you see an inflatable that is popped or down, and the rest are up and happy, then likely it was attacked by these ferocious beasts. These once adorable, entertaining creatures have turned into the holiday season's worst enemy, especially for Christmas lights.
