The days and weeks are ticking by and children all over the Magic Valley are counting down until summer break is finally here. No school, sleeping in, and swimming are some of the things that kids look forward to during summer in the Magic Valley. There are some great local pools to enjoy in the area on warm summer days, but when the pool isn't open it can be disappointing and ruin a child's summer day. One pool in the Magic Valley has announced that it will be closed for the entire summer and the rest of 2025, and it has ruined summer break before it starts for many.

Buhl City Pool Closed for 2025

Recently, a story was written about a Magic Valley pool needing lifeguards to work this summer or the pool would not be able to open for the summer season. That pool was the Buhl Community Pool, and sadly they did not receive the number of applicants they needed. While summer is still a little bit away, they have decided that the pool will be forced to be closed for all of 2025. Without enough staffing, they were unable to safely open the pool and cover the shifts required to keep the pool operating during business hours this summer. It is devastating to the community and children will be forced to find a pool elsewhere to enjoy swimming during the warm summer days this year.

Many factors played a part in the pool not reaching the required staffing to be open this year. Many do not want to work as they can stay at home and collect unemployment these days, and perhaps make more doing so than working a job. Many teenagers prefer to spend their summer at home sleeping in, playing video games, and spending time with their friends instead of working. One factor could be the pay, as other places such as fast food establishments, grocery stores, and other businesses around the Magic Valley offer more pay starting out than that of a lifeguard at a city pool. Some may not be comfortable being in charge of guarding lives and may fear the responsibility that comes with being a lifeguard.

No matter the reason for people not applying for the openings, the pool will be closed, and the residents and children of Buhl are the ones who will have to pay the price. There are still questions about if enough people step up and apply could the pool decide to open late this summer, but at this time that answer is unknown. Keep checking back, as if things do change and the pool decides to open last minute or late in the season, we will update this story.
