Luke Combs may not have taken home Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 10), but the "Hurricane" artist came away from the event with something just the same. On social media on Monday (Feb. 11), Combs got honest, explaining that his initial reaction when the category's winner was announced was an understandably human one, but also that, after a few hours of processing the results, he found a different perspective.

"I can’t say that when the words 'and the Grammy goes to ...' didn’t have my name at the end of them, that it didn’t hurt, that I wasn’t mad, or that I didn’t want to win," Combs shares. "Of course I wanted to win, everyone who is nominated for a Grammy wants to win, that’s just human nature."

After pop star Dua Lipa was announced as 2019's Grammy Awards Best New Artist, Combs says, he had conflicting feelings. He woke up the next morning, however, with a new understanding.

"After a fun night of after parties mixed with feeling sorry for myself I realized something, how blessed I am, win or lose," Combs continues. He gives shoutouts of gratitude to his biggest supporters, of whom he shared photos: his band, his fiancée, Nicole Hocking, his managers, his parents and his dedicated fanbase.

"You have changed my life in ways that I never thought were possible on this SOLD OUT ARENA TOUR!" Combs continues. "Thanks you for spending your hard earned money to watch us do what we love, for telling people about our music, and for singing your hearts out all night."

Combs closes out his lengthy post with a promise that, moving forward, he'll be just fine with either awards show result: "The next time that envelope opens and 'The Grammy Goes To ...' someone else, I’ll be OK with it," he says. "I won’t let it get the best of me, because I am surrounded by the best people in the world everyday and that is something truly worth cherishing."
