Keith Urban Had ‘Come to Terms’ With Not Winning ACM Entertainer of the Year — Then, He Won

Nine nominations later, Keith Urban finally took home his first ACM Entertainer of the Year trophy during Sunday night's (April 7) 2019 ACM Awards show. Backstage, the country superstar admitted that he had accepted that he may never win in that category -- then, he did.

"I've been nominated nine times, so at some point, I come to terms and accept that the nomination is the award," Urban reflected to The Boot and other media members. "I don't know how things go that way sometimes. I mean I love what I get to do, I put everything into it, but, I don't know, all the others do too so ... Thank you, God."

Urban knows that what he has accomplished throughout his career is all thanks to the support of the country music community. The seasoned artist says he's grateful for the support and encouragement he's been given to "go on these creative adventures."

"I feel pulled toward particular music when I'm creating, and I don't know where it goes most of the time, but I just sort of wander along and float and see where the river goes," Urban shares. "Sometimes it wanders places that I've never been before, and I don't expect people will support it necessarily, so when it happens like that, when I get to make a record like [2018's] Grafitti U ... and they get support the way that they have, it's an incredible feeling for any artist."

Urban is now the reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year. Urban won the latter honor in November, for the second time in his career but the first time in 13 years.
