As southern Idaho students prepare to enter back into classrooms this week, concerns over keeping guns away from schools are once again on the minds of many.

School bells are once again ringing throughout Idaho. Some students have already gotten that first day out of the way, while others will begin a new grade next week.

As a parent, campus safety is on my mind every time I wave goodbye to my kid. It's absurd that this world has reached this point when it comes to getting educated.

I have no doubt that just about every school in Twin Falls County has a plan for the upcoming year to keep students safe. One Twin Falls school, in particular, has impressed me since the day I accidentally walked on the campus while in session and was immediately met by an armed officer who wasn't playing around.

Fences are going up around Sawtooth Elementary School this week. I've personally seen the school's command center, where eyes are on monitors all day long, and communication with armed city officers is spot on.

Parents understand and obey the rules the school has implemented. I, for one, prefer this new method of not allowing outside people on campus for any reason while education is in progress.

I think the school is doing A+ work to keep the kids safe, and others should follow their lead.
