Boise State To Play Northern Rivals For First Time Since 2010
Boise State football fans recently received incredible news about an upcoming matchup that involves a highly sought-after trophy that's awarded to the victor. The series first began 55 years ago, and to date, the Broncos are enjoying a five game cushion in the win column.
Exciting news was recently announced by Idaho Governor Brad Little, and it didn't involve politics, which I think we can all use a break from. Instead, it has to do with the great game of football.
Little signed an order a few days ago that will rekindle the battle for the Governor's Trophy between the Boise State Broncos and the University of Idaho Vandals, according to The Arbiter. The University of Idaho is nearly 300 miles north of Boise and was the site of the last matchup between these two programs in 2010, in which Boise State won 52-14 in Moscow.

The rivalry began in 1971 when the Vandals beat BSU 42-14 in Boise. Unfortunately, the upcoming game isn't for another five years.

The 2026-27 regular season for the Broncos begins Saturday, September 5, with a game against Oregon in Eugene. Other opponents include Memphis, South Dakota, Western Michigan, Washington State, and Texas State.
The record between the Vandals and Broncos dating back to the first matchup in 1971 is 22-17-1, with BSU having the advantage.
