Updated Weather Alerts Issued: How Much Snow Will Southern Idaho Get This Week
UPDATED 2/17/26: Wind, rain, and snow are in the extended forecast for this week across Southern Idaho, but what does that mean? How much, if any, snow will we get, and the real question: will it last?
Some of the weather warnings and advisories in Southern Idaho have been modified since first announced on Monday. More snow than originally expected could fall in the Magic Valley, and an extended wind advisory has been issued in the Pocatello area.
- Twin Falls - 1 to 3 inches Tuesday night, and snow showers and flurries are expected through Wednesday morning.
- Boise - Rain Tuesday night, turning to snow Wednesday morning with less than an inch of accumulation. Possibly a few additional snow flurries on Thursday morning.
- Pocatello - Steady snow showers Tuesday into Wednesday morning with an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. Locations east of I-15 could see anywhere between 4 and 8 inches of snowfall over the next few days. A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 8 PM on Wednesday for Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone Lava Beds, Lower Snake Plain, Raft River area, and the South Hills/Albion Mountains, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour expected
The Idaho State Police have already been busy on Tuesday dealing with accidents due to road conditions, and the rest of the week will likely be the same as snow is blown by the wind onto roads.
ORIGINAL FORECAST 02/16/26: We need precipitation in Idaho, and I prefer snow over rain. If it’s going to be cold, whatever falls from the sky should be something we can enjoy. But, even if we do get a blanket of snow this week, which is a real possibility, the daytime temperatures will likely be too high for it to last.
Wind, Rain, and Snow: How Much Will Southern Idaho Get
A Wind Advisory is already in effect in Southern Idaho until Tuesday mid-morning. Gusts up to 55 miles per hour are expected, and along with the wind, rain mixing with snow is in the forecast. Pocatello has a 90 percent chance of a rain and snow mix while Twin Falls has an 80 percent chance of rain Monday night into Tuesday.
The wind is supposed to die down across the area by 9 AM on Tuesday, but the chance of rain and snow sticks around until Friday. But those chances differ between weather forecast sources. For Twin Falls, the WeatherBug and NOAA show snow in the forecast until Friday, but the Weather Channel has it ending on Wednesday morning. WeatherBug also shows an Air Quality Alert and a Daily Precip message in Twin Falls, along with the Wind Advisory. It only shows the Daily Precip warning for Boise.
The National Weather Service (NOAA) sent out an alert for Pocatello for a Winter Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning, along with a Wind Advisory.

When it comes to the snow and how much we’ll get in each location, here’s what we can expect:
- Pocatello - Some rain and snow Monday night, steady snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with up to 2 inches of accumulation, and a final chance of snow flurries on Friday morning. Light snow could fall each day into the middle of next week.
- Boise - A mix of rain and snow on Monday night, late snow showers on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning with an accumulation of less than an inch, then light flurries possible on Thursday morning. A possibility of 4 inches of snow in the foothills around Boise.
- Twin Falls - Rain showers expected on Monday evening, snow developing late Tuesday into Wednesday, with no accumulation mentioned. Around 3 inches of snow is expected in the foothills south of Twin Falls.
As always, the weather is unpredictable, despite attempts to predict it, so keep an eye on the forecast in your area and look out the window before you head outside.
Pomerelle Ski Resort seems optimistic about the snow forecast this week.
