Plans Presented to Build Storage Units Near Twin Falls Train Tracks

One thing I’ve noticed with the expansion of Twin Falls is that every new phase of home construction comes with a new need for storage units. Are all the new houses not big enough for the possessions of the new residents?

These storage units are always full too. We’ve had people move to town, and they haven’t been able to find available storage space. There has been a proposal before the Twin Falls City Council to allow new storage units to be built across the train tracks from the Depot Grill.

I saved the link to the bid request proposal back in June, but I was waiting to see if there was any development announced or any of the public notice signs placed at the location. But since the proposal was announced, I couldn’t find any new information, and the link to the bid request proposal document is now a dead link.

I do remember reading through the document that the plan was to lease all of, or a portion of, the property at 251 Maxwell Ave. and 244 Railroad Ave. to an independent client to build and run a storage unit facility.

Since I can’t find an update on the bid process, whether any independent parties were interested, or if the plan has been scrapped, it still has me wondering if that is a good location for storage units. It’s tucked back behind the Parks and Rec building and the old Western Auto Co. Warehouse. But there may be an obvious reason for that location.

Twin Falls Downtown Renewal Plan Includes Big Changes Near the Railroad Tracks

The proposal was listed under the Urban Renewal Agency (URA) of the City of Twin Falls, so someone in the city government thinks the location is good for storage units. There is also an extended plan in place for that area of downtown to be expanded and improved with new parking and business growth.

The URA currently has a posting for proposals for two other business opportunity locations. At 2nd Ave. and Hansen Street, there’s an opportunity for mixed-use housing and retail expansion or retail, offices, and dining, and at 3rd Ave. and Hansen Street, an opportunity for lodging and entertainment development. Proposals are due by August 28th, 2026.

Downtown Twin Falls is growing, and it looks like the city has an ongoing plan to make that growth beneficial in terms of economic growth (monetarily), recreation, and improved quality of life.
