Plans Approved to Fix the Road to the Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake
In a recent Twin Falls City Council meeting a proposal by a construction company to fix the Shoshone Grade was presented.
There had been a few bids to do the job and it was ultimately approved during the September 16th meeting with a budget of around $3 million.
Yes! Company Wins Bid to Fix the Road Down to the Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake
After engineering worked with Twin Falls Parks and Recreation to determine the scope of the job and create design plans, an initial bid was presented but exceeded the budget. 2 bids were presented after the project plan was modified and RS Jobber Inc. was chosen to do the work. The motion passed with a ‘Yes’ from all 7 city council members.
The Shoshone Grade has deteriorated over the years and patch jobs have been the go-to fix, but the road - especially where it splits between the Shoshone Falls and Dierkes has become littered with potholes.
These pictures show the amount of damage to the road from 2014 to 2024.
The upper section of the road from the top of the canyon to the pay booth has already been fixed.
The information on the City Council website and agenda notes don’t say if the repairs will include the entire road from the top of the canyon to Dierkes and down to Shoshone Falls or only a section of the road.
Technically, from the map, the Shoshone Grade goes from the top of the canyon to the waterfall and not to Dierkes Lake. Hopefully, the repairs will be for the entire road to both locations.
