A deadly virus found across the world has been discovered in a Southern Idaho county by the local pest abatement organization. The virus is carried by the deadliest creature in the world.

Authorities tested more than 4 thousand mosquitoes and discovered the virus in more than one group.

West Nile Virus-Infected Mosquitoes Found in Bingham County, Idaho

The announcement was shared by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office that mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus had been found by the Bingham County Abatement District. The abatement team tested 4,058 mosquitoes from 142 pools of water and discovered the third and fourth West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes in the area this year.

The infected mosquitoes were found in the Shoemaker/Rich Lane Area and the Sterling Wildlife Management Area. Aggressive action has been taken to reduce the mosquito population in those areas.

The first confirmed cases of West Nile in Idaho this year were reported in late July in Canyon County. Since then, there has been one confirmed death due to complications from the virus. An elderly patient from Twin Falls passed away in mid-August from West Nile.

West Nile is not deadly to all who are infected, and many carriers are asymptomatic. Most deaths from the virus are due to preexisting conditions like age or other sicknesses.

Mosquitoes are known to carry the virus and often get it after biting infected birds. Mosquitoes can pass the virus on to humans, horses, and other animals, according to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office social media post.

July and August are prime months for mosquitoes that carry the virus due to excellent weather conditions.
