Impaired Driving Believed to be the Cause of a Serious Idaho Highway Accident

Over the weekend, the Idaho State Police responded to a number of incidents on Idaho highways. Among their responses was a hay hauler semi-truck that had caught fire and a pickup truck pulling a trailer that also caught fire.

Troopers also responded to a variety of vehicle accidents, including a motorcycle rider who passed away after hitting a deer and a semi-truck driver who died when he lost control, hit a tree, and his truck caught fire.

Two Idaho Highway Injury Accidents Caused By Impaired Driving, Police Believe

Among the ISP responses were two accidents that troopers believe were caused by impaired driving. Both accidents also happened in the northern part of the state.

The first possibly alcohol-related accident happened on Saturday, July 25th, at about 2:15 AM, eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 4 in Post Falls. The accident involved:

• A blue 2012 GMC Terrain driven by a 22-year-old male from Post Falls, Idaho
• A red 2025 Jeep SUV driven by a 25-year-old male from North Baldwin, New York

Police believe the GMC was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with the Jeep.

The next evening, Sunday, July 26th, at 9:37 PM, Idaho State Police responded to a serious accident on US 95 at mile marker 304, near the city of Spalding, which is just a few miles from the Washington State border. The ISP report states:

A black 2020 GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by a 29-year-old male from Deer Park, Washington, was traveling northbound on Highway 95 on the Spalding Bridge.

The GMC Sierra pickup truck crossed over the centerline and struck a white 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old male from Lapwai, Idaho, head-on, causing it to overturn.

Both drivers were taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance. Once the driver of the GMC was released from the hospital, he was arrested and booked into the Nez Perce County Jail on an Aggravated DUI charge.

Both accidents are under investigation by ISP.
