Celebrity With Recent Boise Ties Lands Leading Role In Upcoming Movie
It's one of the most popular television shows in the world. In fact, it's the most streamed program on the entire Disney Plus platform, and it's about to go to Hollywood.
Lots of cartoon characters have ties to Idaho. Especially cartoons with ties to Walt Disney. Walt's wife, Lillian, was born and raised in Spalding, and they were married in Lewiston. Idaho and the Disney family spent lots of time there. One of his right-hand guys, Card Walker, who would become the president and CEO of the Walt Disney Company, was born in Rexburg.
Disney's love of Idaho is also seen on the screen. In a 2013 episode of "Mickey Mouse," Mickey, Donald, and Goofy visit a potato-themed amusement park in Idaho. The three even pass the "Welcome To Idaho" sign along the way.
In 1995's "A Goofy Movie," Goofy and his son Max travel to a fictional Idaho vacation spot called Destiny Lake. This week, another character with some recent Idaho ties made a Disney movie announcement.
After being the headlining character at the 2024 Canyon County Kids Expo, Bluey proved to be a major draw for Treasure Valley kids and parents. Her show, Bluey, is the most streamed show on Disney Plus and is a hit for both kids and their parents.
Bluey's first feature film is set to hit Idaho theaters in 2027. It will be a collaboration between Disney and BBC Studios. It will be produced by Amber Naismith, who held the same role for the successful children's movies Happy Feet and The Lego Movie. While the plot is unknown, it was announced that it will feature Bluey and her Mum, Dad, and sister Bingo.
Bluey has won an Emmy, a BAFTA, and a Peabody Award. Even though she won't be at this year's Canyon County Kids Expo at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa on January 25th, other popular characters will be. Available for photo ops for 2025 will be Cody and JJ from CoComelon and Baby Shark.
