Everyone loves food, but a great dining experience means different things to everyone. For some, it means high-end presentations paired with the perfect wine. For others, it might just mean going somewhere the kids enjoy, and parents can get a decent meal. Somewhere in between is the themed restaurant.

Themed restaurants used to be a place for kids. Chuck E. Cheese's, The Rainforest Cafe, the Hard Rock Cafe, and other theme chain restaurants were long considered the standard in this space, but now themed restaurants have upped their game to provide high-end food while entertaining more than just kids. Casa Bonita in Denver, Cappo's in Las Vegas, and the SafeHouse in Milwaukee are great examples.

Across the U.S., unique restaurants are themed like movies and fairytales, and some can transport you to another historical place or time. You could find yourself dining with pirates or drinking with a flapper from the Roaring Twenties. It used to be rare to see a restaurant like this outside of a major city, but now smaller cities and towns have embraced the concept of themed restaurants and put their own local spin on them. Idaho now has plenty of great themed restaurants, but you might need to take a drive to experience some of the best ones.

From Boise to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, restaurants can immerse you in the culture of our state or introduce you to something completely different. These restaurants will let you experience a tropical island, take you back to the Oregon Trail, or make you feel slightly inferior by the size of the pickle on their wall.
