If you have little grandchildren, you know how fun it can be when they come to visit and how exhausting. The energy never subsides and if you have these little kids all weekend, sometimes you just need a break. Here’s a brilliant and easy solution.

Engage Little Minds Without Turning on a Screen

Wouldn’t you love it if your grandkids came over and spent time in the great outdoors getting some fresh air. You need to learn more about the growing popularity of fairy gardens.

This is where you take a part of your backyard and turn it into a small village where tiny, winged creatures might live. Little houses and winding paths snuggled into pots and hiding in the shrubs.

Building a Place for Fairies

I have five grandkids under the age of six and my wife helped them build a fairy garden in a couple of planters. There is a little house with shiny beads scattered around in the dirt with little fairies poking there heads through the foliage.

They love to quietly play with in the fairy garden, especially the little girls. It is the perfect attraction for the kids where they can imagine their own stories and dig around in the dirt.

Creating a Fairy Garden is Cheap and Easy

If you are super crafty, you can make your own little houses. If you want something a lot easier, you can purchase items for a fairy garden online or even buy sets at the dollar store.

There are whole kits that give you the rocks, the houses, little street signs, everything you need to a little village. I put our fairy garden in a planter box right next to the patio where they can play while adults recline on outdoor furniture.

Don’t get too worked up about keeping the fairyland perfect. My little granddaughters like to spread the rocks around or cram all of them into the house.

It is fun for me to see their creativity as they quietly play...and leave me alone for a much needed snooze
