Is There An Appropriate Age To Start Watching Horror Movies [POLL]
I remember watching scary movies as a kid and I don't think I was very old. We did have a rule that you had to be 13 to watch a PG-13 movie, so I was probably at least that age when I got to the good movies. But, there are some good kid friendly spooky movies that I watched when I was younger. Gremlins and Beetlejuice were ones that I got to watch when I was really young because they are both PG, but probably could have passed as a higher rating (Gremlins came out one month before the PG-13 rating was instituted). Even when I was pre-13 I loved scary movies and they never really got to me or kept me up at night. Now I have to watch them by myself at home because my wife hates them and my kids (ages 10 to 15) have no interest in testing the nightmare inducing power of a good horror movie.
Some people let their young kids watch scary movies and others let their kids wait until they are older. One story at SWNS Digital says that many parents let their kids watch scary movies when they are 10 years old. They also include in their story a list of memorable movie villains and it is almost completely different than the list of our favorite movie villains we posted yesterday. That list included only classic horror movie villains but the SWNS list includes mostly current villains like the Dalek, Darth Vader, and Harry Potter characters.
