Deputy-Involved Shooting Under Investigation by ISP
The Idaho State Police (ISP) is conducting an independent investigation into a deputy-involved shooting by the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on November 5, following a vehicle crash on Interstate 84.
Reports of Reckless Driving on I-84
In the afternoon, law enforcement received multiple reports of a vehicle driving recklessly eastbound on I-84. Witnesses reported the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic before crashing near milepost 87. The crash also ignited a small brush fire in the area.
Altercation at the Crash Site
At the scene, a 36-year-old male driver from Idaho was confronted by an Elmore County Sheriff’s deputy. When the deputy attempted to take the man into custody, a physical altercation ensued. The situation escalated, leading the deputy to discharge his firearm multiple times, injuring the driver.
Driver Airlifted to Hospital
The injured driver received immediate medical attention at the scene. He was then airlifted by St. Luke’s Air Ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. However, medical officials expect him to survive.
Idaho State Police Commissioned for Independent Investigation
The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Idaho State Police to independently investigate the incident. Once the investigation is complete, ISP will submit its findings to the local Prosecutor’s Office for review.
