Dating in 2024 is hard. You never know who you can trust, and rarely do you meet anyone in person. A potential date's intentions are never truly known. Do they want to be in a relationship? Do they want to be friends? Are they looking for something serious or just something for one night? It can be tough dating, but when you finally find someone you connect with, you should be excited and want to tell all your friends and family. Sometimes that isn't the case though. If there is something you think your friends and family will judge, perhaps you hide the relationship. If you are dating someone significantly older or younger than you, would you tell your friends and family, or would you hide it?

A recent survey came out from datingnews.com that discussed being in a relationship with a big age gap, and how couples handle it. Love comes in all shapes, sizes, races, and ages, but yet some people are afraid to share their love with the world. It is not uncommon to see two people on a date with an age gap, as 52 percent of those surveyed admitted to going on a date with someone 5 years older or younger than them. When it comes to dating age gaps, 1 in 5 said they kept the relationship a secret, with 19 percent saying their friends and family would disapprove, and an astounding 61 percent saying the age gap would have a major impact on the relationship.

While age might be a major factor in relationships, so is money, and 76 percent of those surveyed admitted that financial stability plays a huge part in relationships with age gaps. Older or younger? What do Americans prefer? According to the study, 93 percent would date someone older, while 88 percent would date someone younger. The average age gap for dating older was 7 to 8 years, while younger was a variety, depending on which generation the person came from. The survey showed that 73 percent think older partners are more mature, and 71 percent think a younger partner is more energetic and adventurous. In a bizarre twist, 1 in 10 surveyed said they would date someone the same age as their children.

In 2024, society has learned to be less judgmental and more accepting. In the older days, relationships were expected to be between people around the same age, the same race, and the same gender. But society has evolved and it isn't uncommon to see people dating from different races, the same gender, or with huge age differences. Don't be ashamed of who you love, but instead be proud to show them off. To see the full survey on dating with age gaps, make sure to click the link in the second paragraph above.
