TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-Federal forest officials will host two Open House meetings regarding the proposed changes to seasonal hunting closures in specific areas of the South Hills.

The Sawtooth national Forest Minidoka Ranger District announced two upcoming meeting in November to present the proposal on Seasonal Route Road Restriction Project for the month of October. The first meeting will be held on November 7, at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cassia County Commissioners Chambers and the second will be held at the Sawtooth National Forest Supervisors Office in Jerome County on November 14, 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Specialist will be there to answer any questions the public may have on the project at each meeting. The public will also get the chance to provide input on the project. The proposed changes come after recent observations found that the closures are ineffective and motorists repeatedly go around gates and barriers.

The proposed changes would only impact the October seasonal closures and would not change other existing seasonal closures. It would also open up a little more than seven miles of roads to motorists that would otherwise be closed. The areas impacted by the proposal includes the northwest end of the South Hills near Little Cotton Wood, and areas southwest and southeast of Magic Mountain.
