Heavy rain is creating concerns for flooding across parts of Southern Idaho this afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued Flash Flood Watch for parts of Southern Idaho and Oregon.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for portions of Idaho through 6pm on Thursday, September 5th. This includes the following areas:

  • Boise Mountains
  • Camas Prairie
  • Lower Treasure Valley
  • Owyhee Mountains
  • Southern Twin Falls County
  • Southwest Highlands
  • Upper Treasure Valley
  • Upper Weiser River
  • West Central Mountains
  • Western Magic Valley

Thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible in all areas. Heavy rainfall is particularly dangerous in areas of steep terrain and near areas recently burned by wildfire activity where dangerous mudflows and debris flows are much more likely. Be prepared to take quick action if heavy rainfall is observed nearby. Know how to leave the area quickly and move to higher ground.

Precautionary/preparedness actions

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
