Five People Taken to Hospitals After Crash Near Declo

Multiple people were taken to the hospital after a crash around 10:50 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 84 north of Declo.

Idaho State Police say 72-year-old Walter Oliphant from Meridian was driving a Chevy Equinox westbound when he took Exit 216.

Oliphant continued to drive across SH-25 and didn't yield to oncoming traffic. Oliphant's car collided with a pickup 22-year-old Carissa Toner from Heyburn was driving. Toner's car hit Oliphant's car, which stopped on its side.

Oliphant and the passenger in his car, 72-year-old Denise Oliphant from Meridian, were both taken by ambulance to Cassia Regional Hospital in Burley.

Toner and the passengers in her car, 18-year-old Janie Toner and 22-year-old Lourdes Raybal, who are both from Heyburn, were taken by ambulance to the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.

Police say the Oliphant's, Carissa Toner, and Raybal were wearing seatbelts when the crash happened. Janie Toner wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

The accident blocked the westbound Exit 216 off-ramp of I-84 and all lanes of SH-25 for about an hour.

Idaho State Police were helped by the Cassia County Sheriff's Office, Declo Fire, Declo QRU and Search and Rescue Extrication at the scene.

This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
